Last week I contacted a few online printing companies that specialise in Zine's. I think I've been putting-off choosing a print company so far because I really don't know much about it! It's scary because I want the physical zine to do the images the justice they deserve.
Two companies have since got back to me with samples. My favourite company thus far is one called 'EXWHYZED', mainly due to their personal touches, more detailed emails and hand-written envelope! This all just seems more fitting to my aims for the zine.

After reviewing the samples in detail and getting opinions from others around me, I selected the paper/card type that I feel is best. These included only 'uncoated' and matte finishes and I hope for the zine to have consistent material throughout but with a slightly thicker cover. I also prefer the off-white colours and feel this will add to the slightly gritty aesthetic aim.
I also visited a local company this morning, Southampton design and print. I explained my project along with the paper, weights and colouring I'm interested in and discovered they can actually offer the exact same as the online companies I've been looking into. After much consideration and more sample reviews, I noted how the quality of all companies seemed pretty much the same and I just feel so much safer using a local one, where I can check on progress and quickly sort any issues.
I've now arranged with Southampton design and print for a PDF to be emailed to me with details of setting up my document for print. This should make the daunting in-design process a little easier!
